KSCU features Collide

KSCU features Collide

Tonight from 9-9:45pm feel free to tune in over the internet. Here is a review from the station as well. Thanks E.O.

kaRIN & Statik are back with their new release, which was 3 years in the making. Well worth the wait, too. Collide's music just keeps getting more and more intricate and intense. Layer upon layer of sound mixes with kaRIN's voice, which always sends chills down my spine when I hear it. She has got to have one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard. Add the incredible production by Statik, and you have one of the most distinctive sounding releases so far this year. Some stellar guest stars on this new CD as well, including cEvin Key from Skinny Puppy, and Danny Carey from Tool.

Jag

Jag

The CBS TV show Jag has chosen a Collide song for their upcoming episode called "Ice Queen". It will air on Tuesday April 22, which is coincidentally the release date for "Some kind of Strange" at 8:00 pm Eastern/Standard time. The song they will be using is"Transfer" which is the first song on" Chasing the Ghost". We are told the scene is a goth girl doing an autopsy while listening to the music of Collide.

Some Kind of Strange

Some Kind of Strange

We haven't posted in a while because we've been busy! All is done for the new CD, except for mastering which is set for next week. There are eleven songs, and the running time is almost an hour. During the past week we were able to finish up the last song, "Somewhere", with Danny Carey from Tool playing drums. We've moved the release date to April 22nd, (which co-insides with Earth Day), to allow for us time to get copies out to press, etc. We're going to be doing a bit of updating on the web site in the coming weeks so check back. Our cover photo and artwork were done by Chad Michael Ward,.

We'd also like to thank some of our other friends who played on the CD...

Some Kind of Strange

Some Kind of Strange

We're still in the middle of mixing and we're very happy at how the songs are turning out. We're thinking that we should be able to finish mixing by mid-January, which would mean a March release. The title for the CD is "Some Kind of Strange." We're also getting ready for a new photo shoot for possible album artwork with Chad Michael Ward, who of course, did the cover art for Chasing the Ghost.

Haunted and birthday

Haunted and birthday

Today is Statik's birthday. woo-hoo.

Haunted

This coming week look for "Wings of Steel" on the UPN show Haunted. It's a dark show about ghosts and dead people. This will be its second episode. In Los Angeles, it is on channel 13, and will be on Tuesday, Oct. 1st at 9pm. Check for times in your area.

The new album is getting closer to being finished. We're still working away, closer, closer still.

New Stuff + Old Stuff

New Stuff + Old Stuff

We haven't posted anything to the Collide news page in a while, but that's only because we've been busy in the studio. We have narrowed in on the new songs and now have 11 or 12 that we are sure will make it to the final cut. All in all, they are probably 80% done (except for mixing). cEvin Key has played drums on one song, and a majority or programming, vocals, and guitar are finished. We are very happy with how it is all turning out. We are hoping to be done in Sept. for a release later in the year, but we still haven't decided on a title or artwork yet.

Old Stuff

In other news, we have come across some of our pre Beneath the Skin releases. We have 25 cassette copies of "The Crimson Trial", and 200 vinyl copies of Statik's "Machines". The cassettes are a full colour fold out sleeve, and contain some mixes that were done before Beneath the Skin was released, as well as some mixes that were never released anywhere else. The Statik "Machines" contains 4 songs that have not been released since it originally came out. All copies will be hand numbered and signed. For more information, check our online store.

Skinny Puppy Reborn/New Collide

Skinny Puppy Reborn/New Collide

Statik has been working with the pups on the reformation of Skinny Puppy. Here is a quote from the Litany web site... The news of Skinny Puppy's reformation, which Ogre casually mentioned in his post a few days ago (see below), has started to spread. Billboard.com has picked it up and reported on it in a story here. The story erroneously mentions that Dave Ogilvie will be involved in the reunion. This is not the case. Aversion.com features another brief story here.

With the hectic fervor surrounding this news, a lot of confusion as to what is going on has already proliferated. Here's the straight scoop from cEvin himself."Actually me, Omar, and Statik are working on new SP with Ogre and Mark Walk. We will probably do some tracks with friends joining...including Ken."So there you have it. New Skinny Puppy material featuring both cEvin and Ogre is in the early, generative stages. If you're wondering who the additional people mentioned above are, here's the rundown. Omar Torres is one of the new faces at Subcon who worked on The Ghost of Each Room and is part of the software company Native Instruments . Mark Walk is Ogre's collaborator on the ohGr project who first came into the fold back during the Process sessions. Ken Marshall is a long-time Puppy associate who worked in an engineering and production capacity on a number of recordings, most recently the Ogre/cEvin collaboration Frozen Sky. Finally, Statik is the man behind the music of Collide (whom cEvin did a remix for).

New Review of Chasing the Ghost

New Review of Chasing the Ghost

Here's a snippet of it, but feel free to check out the entire review. " Now, when I first heard Hooverphonic's electronic trip-hop masterpiece A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular I thought that I"d heard the sexiest album of my life. Of course, that title was just begging to be contested, and the new champion is Collide's Y2K album Chasing the Ghost. This is a sexy, sexy album kids! It's a triumphant blend of trip-hop, electronica, goth, pop and yes, even world-music elements. Exotic, erotic, and seductive, that's this album in a nutshell."
