COLLIDE LIVE BIOGRAPHY

Collide biography

COLLIDE takes on additional members when it takes to the stage..

Scott Landes - guitar
Scott Landes started his journey in the armpit of America: New Jersey. When growing up, he was brought up in a household setting that put music all around him. Being raised by a musical family, he started playing musical instruments at an early age; his first being the piano, flute and clarinet. By the time he was in high school; and at the start of his inward journey he found out that the world is indeed one of the most mysterious, beautiful and painful places to exist in. (Besides the infinite number of mult-dimensional planes of reality that he explored, it was always this world that always came back into existence.) Through listening to such influential bands/musicians as David Gilmour, Jimmy Hendrix, Clapton, Tool, among many others, it was at that point in time when the transcendental aspect of music first opened up to him, and along with that his vehicle/tool of choice for expression became the guitar. He joined his first band in high school; it was a progressive metal/punk band fronted by a female vocalist called Relapse. After being in numerous bands on the east coast he decided to make a change of scenery and relocated to sunny Southern California. There, his plan was to become self-sufficient while continuing his musical journey. It was there that he discovered that he could support his musical aspirations by utilizing his other passion; that being primarily computer/network related technologies. The four years that he has been out here was a rollercoaster of life experiences, all surrounded by music and the
creation/performance of it.

Finally, that all culminated in the backyard studio in March, 2003 at Collide’s dwelling place when he auditioned for the part of being one of their live guitarists. With his Paul Reed Smith in hand, he has been honing their live set with them ever since and is now ready to take part in the performance of Collide’s music. Ever since he left high school, he knew what he wanted to accomplish and how to pursue it, and Collide offered to him the perfect opportunity that was in line with his goals and it also became a vehicle for him to express himself as part of a greater whole.

His musical taste and style varies from jazz to cutting-edge electronic music. He recorded his first album "Doubts"
with his own instrumental trio, in 2002, which features his own compositions of various styles. He has also worked closely with Caroline/Superdrive as bass player for electronic pop music. Recently, he started to play his Warr and bass as part of the live band for Collide.
Besides all these musical experiences he has, he also worked on various websites as web designer including his own - .happysad.org
Academically, He finished his masters at the California
Institute of the Arts in 2005.

Rogerio Silva - guitar

"It took Rogerio many air guitar solos in the shower to realize that the classical guitar lessons he was taking had their days numbered. By the age of 14, and inspired by his idol Brian May (QUEEN), he decided he needed to make that switch to the evil, dreaded and mostly misunderstood world of the electric guitar. This proved a much harder project than he could possibly imagine at such a young age. Growing up in a 3rd World country economic carnival, he had to deal with the negative perception and bad reputation that rock musicians were thought to have, as rebels more fit for the underworld of deviant sex, drugs, hippies, and/or the satanic. Part of which being true, these perceptions enticed his curiosity in those supposedly regarded as misfits even more so. A social curiosity which he could not resist, which pushed him in to trying to experience it all for himself. Musically, after many years of playing with some great, and some not-so-great musicians, Rogerio finally found himself entering into the world of COLLIDE. That took place after a long period of moving to the US, and hoping from coast to coast more times than he desired to, and establishing himself in Los Angeles in 2002, just in time to participate in the recordings of COLLIDE' Some Kind Of Strange album. His preocupation with accuracy and technique, as well as his background in heavy and prog rock, funk, fusion and latin rhythms proved to come in quite handy when it came time to track challenging pieces like Euphoria and Modify, to name a few. In COLLIDE Rogerio finds the perfect scenario to express his own musical idiom, both harmonically and rhythmically, which he points out eloquently: "It's a lot easier to be your best when you're playing with such talents, who have open minds and can communicate effectively verbally as well as musically. This is a dream band for me". And indeed it shows."

Chaz Pease - drums

Drums always seemed the natural choice for Chaz. As a kid he was diagnosed as being hyper active as he was always banging on things, yelling, and in general being a very loud little person. Later on, his father bought him a drumset to make sure his energy was expended in a non destructive way, and it worked. Even though he wasn’t very good at the time, Chaz fell in love with drumming for its primitive nature. After taking one drum lesson he decided he wanted to learn his own way and never went back.
“ Other than the cool concept of whacking something over and over, the other aspect that attracted me to drums was its mathematical nature. I love the fact that no matter what you play, and in what time signature, you always come back to 1. As the drummer I think it’s important to remember that’s my job, regardless of the song, is to keep the time locked in tight and make sure the song has a flow.”
